Featuring my ‘I am a cool researcher/con

Manasi Anand

I am a PhD student at the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment at Cornell University. My interests pertain to understanding how political economy shapes nature-society relations in forest landscapes. I am particularly interested in studying the politics and practices associated with carbon forestry and how it has been shaped by forest management interventions since the colonial era. I draw from narratives in Political Ecology, Science and Technology Studies and use ethnographic and historical methods to demonstrate this.

I graduated with an MSc in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management from the University of Oxford in 2017. My MSc dissertation and post-dissertation research explored the role of different neoliberal governance interventions in shaping rural subjectivities and conservation outcomes in the Lokkere Reserve Forest, South India. The 'CV tab' lists my publications, conference presentations, research experience and awards.

Beyond my professional engagement as an aspiring academic, I paint and write poetry .
